Salamander Resort is envisioned by owner Sheila Johnson as the premier equestrian resort in the world. With amenities such as a state of the art equestrian center where guests can bring their own horses, an exclusive spa with a secluded pool reserved for spa guests and beguiling trails through adjoining nature preserves, this is an alluring destination whose rural Virginia charm belies its proximity to Washington, DC.
ForrestPerkins serves as interior architect and interior designer for Salamander Resort. No detail has been overlooked as we wove the equestrian theme subtly throughout the design, from custom light fixtures to hand-woven rugs depicting the seasons to the overall design of the restaurant to suggest a luxurious horse barn. Spacious guest rooms in two unique schemes feature five fixture baths with flat screen televisions and a separate dressing area.
The resort features a grand living room with expansive views of the property flanked by an intimate library and a cozy wine bar that features local wines from nearby vineyards as well as an extensive international wine list. There is a billiard room as well as a cooking school. Meeting facilities are designed to host executive level retreats and luxurious social functions. The octagonal restaurant has generous seating and dramatic views, with a working wine cellar designed to accommodate private parties and special events.
When completed, Salamander Resort will join its peers as one of the most exclusive and sought after destinations in the world.
