The vision for the renovation and repositioning of The Stoneleigh Hotel was to reflect the elegance of the nineteen thirties, when the hotel was in its heyday as the favorite of visiting celebrities, design aficionados and high-society elites. ForrestPerkins was engaged to refurbish the hotel, revitalizing the lobby, lobby lounge, ground floor ballroom, and 170 guest rooms and suites, and creating a new full-service spa as well as a rooftop ballroom. The firm's goal was to infuse the style of the Art Deco period with the hallmarks of twenty-first century luxury, rekindling The Stoneleigh's status as an icon of glamour and gracious elegance.
Custom furniture, hand-tufted rugs, polished hardwood floors and dramatic green silk draperies lend an air of glamour to the lobby and lobby lounge, creating the ideal space for social gatherings and fascinating people-watching. Man of the building's original Art Deco details were retained, such as the brushed steel and brass stair rail, rosso levanto marble columns and polished mahogany and ebony millwork. Modern elements such as Venetian chandeliers, sumptuous fabrics in shades of emerald, amethyst and platinum, and contemporary artwork by noted Texas artists are a lively complement to the building's elegance.
For the guest rooms, the ForrestPerkins design team brightened the lobby's jewel-toned palette to incorporate two distinct schemes - one combining coral red and pink with charcoal and ivory, and the other incorporating teal with cinnamon, aqua and ivory. Both schemes share custom designed mahogany wood finishes whose styling and platinum appointments reference the hotel's heritage. To complete the sense of history, the design team enlarged the bathrooms and chose authentic rectangular ceramic wall tile in polished ivory, a black and white octagonal marble floor tile, and brightly colored walls that coordinate with each room scheme. The effect is a crisp take on 1930's glamour with twenty-first century guest expectations for space and comfort in mind.
For the new spa, the design team extended the color scheme from the lobby, distilling the strong mineral tones of emerald and amethyst to softer aquamarine and rose quartz tones. The women's locker room includes two large whirlpool spa tubs and a large shower with full body sprays. The men's includes a sauna. Eight treatment rooms include two couple's rooms, one with a tub and the other with a large shower. A nail salon and hair salon make the spa the perfect venue for wedding parties.
